Vanilla French Toast

May 10, 2021

The perfect breakfast to wake up for. Insanely easy to make and incredibly delicious! I love making this on a lazy Sunday.

What You’ll Need:

Challah – I feel very fortunate that my husband makes homemade challah for Shabbat. Since we always have some leftover, this is a great Sunday breakfast to make. I hate throwing out food so this is an easy way to utilize anything that we didn’t eat over Shabbos. Challah is also great to keep in your freezer so these french toast bites can be a great to make when your fridge is looking a little empty. If you’d prefer to buy challah, here are some brands that I really like. Keep in mind, that you may not have these brands near you depending on where you’re located.

  1. Zomick’s Their challah is beyond addicting. I can honestly eat a loaf on my own.
  2. Kineret: This is a great challah to keep in your freezer. There are also so many ways you can make this into other baked treats. I happen to love this brand on a personal note because this was what my mom used to make challah for the first time on Rosh Hashana.

Eggs – I typically like buying pasture raised organic eggs. While I’m not vegan, I still believe in buying products that are less harmful for the environment and animals. With that said, if I’m having trouble finding my ideal type of egg I will opt for a lesser quality product but my preference will always be pasture raised organic. Not only do I feel better eating them on an ethical level but you can absolutely taste the difference.

Milk – I love using Lactaid Milk 1%. Yes, it’s still dairy but apparently it’s still healthier than regular milk. I also like that it lasts much longer in my fridge than regular milk. Since I’m the only one in my home that puts milk in their coffee I’m so happy to have found a milk that lasts long and isn’t a typical sugary creamer.

Vanilla Extract – I love adding this to so many dishes. It really levels up your baked goods.

Nutmeg – I don’t use nutmeg a lot but since I’ve collected so many spices over the years, I purchased a spice organizer with labels from Amazon. It seriously saved me and makes it so easy to find a spice. You can find it here

Butter – I rarely ever use butter and since I’m kosher, it’s difficult to fully utilize a full stick of butter. Even though this recipe calls for butter, you can substitute with margarine too. I find that I utilize margarine more often and it tastes the same to me.
